Preview: Nokia 7610 Supernova
Four new phones. All part of a new Supernova line that had only been mentioned in hushed rumors. These are not exactly groundbreaking handsets by any means – the focus of Supernova is more on fashion than function. But they’re surprisingly feature-packed for the price.
First up: Nokia 7610 Supernova.
If you’ve been following Nokia phones for a long, long time, you might remember a really, really odd phone that looked like this:
Yep, it’s the original! The original 7610 that is. The completely unrelated 7610 Supernova, on the other hand, looks a little like this:
So the new 7610 is a quad-band slider with a Series 40 interface. The numbers aren’t too bad: 8.4 hours of talk time on an 860 mAh lithium-ion battery, 15 mm thickness, weight of 99 grams, 16 million color display, and all for a retail price of 225 euros.
Out of the four phones released on Friday, the 7610 easily takes the cake for Best Imaging Phone, and I’m not being sarcastic either. It’s a 3.2 megapixel (no Carl Zeiss optics though) shooter with a couple extras: autofocus, dual LED flash, and TV out. Note that the previous rumor of 30 fps VGA video recording has been debunked: the 7610 only does 15 fps.
Of course, since this is a fashion phone, there’s got to be some options in the customization department. And in this case, Nokia added a “theme colorizer” that features some sort of newfangled “color detection,” which allows the user to choose a color, changing the wallpaper and navigation key illumination colors in the process.
The Nokia 7610 Supernova will be hitting stores sometime in the third quarter, which could be pretty damn soon.
