iFixit disassembles the Nokia N8.

The folks over at iFixit have gotten their hands dirty disassembling Nokia’s latest N8 smartphone. Final verdict: 8 out of 10 for repairability.

That arbitrary number is based on how many replaceable parts are included in a given device, and it turns out that most of the N8′s innards are pretty serviceable – battery, glass panel, AMOLED, and all.

Some interesting notes from the teardown:

  • Both cameras are non-removable.
  • The battery can be replaced by removing two screws.
  • Nokia added some thermal heat pads above the RAM, flash memory, and GPU chips.
  • The N8 uses the same touch-screen controller as the Microsoft Kin Two and Blackberry Torch.
