Nokia Messaging Adds HTML Support

September 9, 2009 in Mobile Phone Software

The long-awaited upgrade to Nokia Messaging was just released, The biggest improvement is the ability to view HTML emails, with a side benefit of kinetic scrolling through said emails. The sad part, however, is that there’s no kinetic scrolling for your non-HTML emails. Mind-boggling.

I also noticed a slight improvement in scrolling speed through my emails, although larger mailboxes were still really laggy. And for some reason, selecting an email still feels like a painfully slow process. Apparently scrolling the text up one line and displaying a line of email text is too taxing on the processor.

There’s still some random small bugs still present here too – like the Sync icon getting cut off in Portrait mode, and the email address at the top not displaying completely. Also, you can’t change the setting “Remove older than…(2 weeks)” in Options->What to sync->Inbox. What if I want to remove older than 3 days?

A list of my suggestions for Nokia Messaging would go something like this:

- Speed up the performance
- Fix the bugs
- Add kinetic scrolling everywhere
- Add threaded emails
- Get rid of that annoying circle animation that pops up when you touch the screen for longer than 2 secs
- Make use of the volume control keys to scroll up and down

Get the latest version of Nokia Messaging by signing into your Nokia Messaging account and click the “Install Now” link on the right side.

i find that in the inbox settings the ‘max attach size (kb)’ option is missing after installing this. Is is a problem that only i am encountering? What is the solution?

“Long awaited release” is a bit of an understatement. Welcome to 2003 Nokia. I had to trade mine in for a blackberry a year ago so I could have my html mail.

Can’t beleive it takes that log to Nokia to provide a decent Email client
iPhone email client is beautifull and smooth
Android email client is beautifull and smooth
It took ages for Nokia to provide natural HTML support on S60v5
And the UI is still ugly, slow, inconsistent
The f***ing initial setup is a pain; looks Nokia do not use it’s software before releasing them
I’ve been a Nokia:Symbian fan for years but being very disappointed by what Nokia devices deliver today
