Nokia’s Ovi Store Opens

Nokia's Ovi Store is now open for business.

Today Nokia announced the opening of its Ovi Store, a one-stop place to get your S60 applications, ringtones, themes, and Hannah Montana games. There’s just two problems with it: 1) lack of “merchandise” and 2) way too much junk. The good news is #1 is gradually turning into a non-issue. There’s a heck of a lot more stuff now than there was earlier today, and even quality stuff from some well-known companies – Taito, Capcom, and Electronic Arts – to name a few.

Just for fun, I downloaded one of the freeware games called “The Journey”, some sort of adventure game that uses your phone GPS. It was a fairly painless process, and probably took under two minutes.

Playing the game, unfortunately, is another story. This game wasn’t kidding around – to get from place to place, you have to actually walk far enough so that your GPS location changes. The Journey indeed. And since the game doesn’t count walking from one end of my condo to the other as traveling, it looks like I’m stuck. Guess we’ll never learn the identity of the “evil black guy.”

Update: after letting my phone sit on my desk for a couple of minutes, my character magically walked to the Bar. But now I have to walk “straight ahead and follow the street for some time” to get to the Factory, and the “do nothing” trick isn’t working any more.

Update 2: I walked to my bedroom, arrived at the Factory, and now I have to go back to the Detective Office. I think I’m going to sleep instead. This game is utterly ridiculous.
