From Milan: Two Wacky Cell Phone Prototypes

The TRIPHONE

The TRIPHONE*

*not the real name

Two very interesting/strange prototype phones were showcased recently at Milan’s design museum. Both were manufactured by Yamaha as part of the “Musical Instruments and Mobile Phones” exhibit.

First up is the “Trio in your hand” phone, a device that unfolds into three parts. I’m not really sure why, and the description didn’t help either.

A third interface.
Instantly broadening possibilities for new expression.
A new method is born.

And while I couldn’t think of any real practical use for the tri-phone, I can put this wind-ensemble-in-your-pocket phone to good use:

Start a one-man band with unnamed device.

Start a one-man band with unnamed device.

Now you too can play the flute, piccolo, kazoo, or any other fun tube-shaped instruments that Yamaha can dream up, thanks to these handy attachments that connect to the phone. Great for airplane trips!
