Grab PaintPad for 5800 XpressMusic [Freeware]

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Put that stylus to good use with PaintPad.

Put that stylus to good use with PaintPad.

One thing that irks me about the 5800 XpressMusic are the little oversights that I come across. You know, small little things like being unable to select multiple items in a list, or an email application which is supposed to have Home screen notifications, but doesn’t. Things that should have been caught during testing.

Not on Vodafone? No 6730 For You!

Friday, May 29th, 2009
The 6730 is Vodafone-exclusive.

The 6730 is Vodafone-exclusive.

…but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Nokia announced the Vodafone-exclusive candy bar device today, and by the looks of it, you probably won’t be missing much. The 6730 is a pretty basic Series 60 phone with only a couple noteworthy features: namely, S60, A-GPS and 10 hours of battery life (GSM). It also looks like a 6030.

Nokia N97 Preorder Up At Amazon: $603.99

Snag the N97 (Preorder) for $603.99

Snag the N97 (Preorder) for $603.99

For those of you who missed out on the veritable Deal of the Century (myself included), you can now preorder the N97 at Amazon for the reasonable price of $603.99. This is the US version of course.

It’s not a whopping discount (14% off, retail is $699.99), but not having to pay tax/shipping a la NokiaUSA.com might make it worth your while. I’m personally still on the fence.

Nokia’s Ovi Store Opens

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
Nokia's Ovi Store is now open for business.

Nokia's Ovi Store is now open for business.

Today Nokia announced the opening of its Ovi Store, a one-stop place to get your S60 applications, ringtones, themes, and Hannah Montana games. There’s just two problems with it: 1) lack of “merchandise” and 2) way too much junk. The good news is #1 is gradually turning into a non-issue. There’s a heck of a lot more stuff now than there was earlier today, and even quality stuff from some well-known companies – Taito, Capcom, and Electronic Arts – to name a few.

Nokia's CR-99 Universal Holder

Today we’ve got the Nokia CR-99 Universal Phone Holder up for review. In a nutshell, it’s a small plastic device with two rubber “claws” that keep your phone locked down while in a car or other moving vehicle. Handy, yes.

Nokia 6600i: Sleek S40 Slide Coming in Q3

Friday, May 22nd, 2009
Nokia 6600i: Another S40 with a 5 meg camera.

Nokia 6600i: Another S40 with a 5 meg camera.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the 6600i is the second S40 phone armed with a 5-megapixel camera (no Carl Zeiss, though). The first was the 6260 Slide, a phone that looks and feels strangely similar. And you might be better off with the 6260 Slide, because the 6600i’s a slight downgrade from there. At least the 6600i clocks in at a 100 euros cheaper.

Grab Nine Freeware 5800 XpressMusic Apps at Nokia India

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Anybody who’s got a 5800 XpressMusic knows there’s one huge problem with the device: lack of software. Here’s a way to fix that: hit up Nokia India and grab some freeware. Right now the site has a fairly random jumble of free apps for the 5800XM, ranging from the possibly fun (Marble Maze, basically labyrinth the board game on your phone) to the possibly useful (MyRingtone, lets you create ringtones from other sound files, even combining them to create a “Fusion” ringtone).

The E52 in all of its shiny glory.

The E52 in all of its shiny glory.

We’re getting awfully close to the second half of 2009, which means a whole slew of new phones coming soon to a Nokia Flagship Store near you. Joining them will be the E52, Nokia’s latest Eseries candy bar. While it might be a little bland in the looks department, it’s got an impressive feature-set including some things we’ve never seen before.

Updates: Nokia Updater and 5800 XpressMusic Firmware

Friday, May 15th, 2009
No new software updates available for your phone. Try Again!

No new software updates available for your phone. Try Again!

Today’s news includes one major update, and one not-so-major update. The latest version of the Nokia Updater software has been released, and probably wouldn’t be very newsworthy if it wasn’t for a new feature: the ability to see what new improvements are in new phone updates. This is huge.
