Three New XpressMusic Phones Coming Today?

So says Netherlandish blog All About Phones. Apparently there’s a music-themed event coming later on today, with three new phones being announced: the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic, 5330 XpressMusic, and 5030 Xpress Radio (sense a trend here?). And while the 5330 closely resembles the Nokia 5630 XpressMusic phone, it’s not. Confused yet?

The 5730 XpressMusic is probably the most interesting of the bunch, and it should be a tad bit familiar. That’s because it has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard reminiscent of the more recent E75, but with a bigger emphasis on (xpress)music rather than business functions. The 5730 will come stocked with WLAN, 3.2 megapixel camera, GPS, dedicated gaming keys, and “Say and Play,” Nokia’s voice recognition feature that plays music tracks on demand. Expect the 5730 XpressMusic to cost around 280 euros ($355 USD).

Next up is the 5330 XpressMusic, a lower-end slider that suspiciously reminds me of HTC’s Touch Pro. This one’s going for 160 euros ($203 USD), and features a bunch of different light effects, dedicated music keys, a 3.5 mm stereo audio jack, and a very odd keypad. Expect the 5330 XpressMusic to start shipping some time in the third quarter.

Finally, we have the 5030 Xpress Radio. Yeah, Xpress Radio. What a name. Anyway, thanks to the magic of Google Translate, we have here an excellent description of the 5030:

“The device will be the first mobile phone, a major producer an FM receiver built in, so a headset is no longer needed to listen to your radio. The design of the back is like that of the R300, with a great speaker who left the unit must transform into a ghetto-blaster. This ghetto-blaster must also go into full 24 hours.”

Update: Actually, the 5030 XpressRadio only comes with – you guessed it – a regular FM radio. No FM transmitter here. On the flip side, the FM radio has an antenna, so you don’t need the wired headset to listen to the radio any more. Bah.

So it looks like the 5030 XpressRadio comes with an integrated FM transmitter, first seen on the Nokia N78. An FM transmitter is NOT the same as an FM radio – the transmitter allows you to “transmit” or broadcast audio as an FM radio station. The technology’s pretty cool, but quality is usually spotty due to potential interference from actual radio stations. Besides the FM transmitter and ghetto-blasters, however, there isn’t a whole lot more to the 5030 Xpress Radio. At least it’s priced right: for 40 euros ($50), this baby can be yours.
