Nokia 7205 Intrigue: A CDMA Phone That Actually Looks Decent

March 24, 2009
On second thought, maybe not.

On second thought, maybe not.

It’s good to know that Nokia’s CDMA handsets keep getting progressively better. Better looking, that is. At this rate, Nokia will have quite a looker in 2012.

In case you were wondering, Nokia’s CDMA line didn’t always look so hot:

However, the most recent 8208 definitely raised a bar somewhere, even though its feature set left a lot to be desired. That seems to be a quality given to nearly all of Nokia’s CDMA handsets.

But this post is about the Nokia 7205 Intrigue, Nokia’s environmentally-aware CDMA flip phone that’s available now on Verizon Wireless (meaning, USA) for the low low price of $179.99 with 2-year agreement. You do get a $50 debit card with your purchase, which technically brings down the total to $129.99.

The 7205 incorporates Nokia’s hidden-until-lit external display, which I think is a higher-level way of saying “it’s off until it turns on.” It’s the same feature that Nokia implemented in the 7510, and essentially it’s Nokia’s way of displaying stuff on an external screen by camouflaging the actual screen.

There’s also something new here called “Habitat Mode”:

When the Habitat mode is activated, contacts are presented in chronological order, providing an engaging and intuitive way for customers to track, visualize and connect with their contacts.

In terms of media, the 7205 Intrigue sports an expandable microSD card slot (supports 8 gigabyte cards), a 2 megapixel camera with flash, and external playback buttons. Also note that the 7205 comes in two flavors (pink/black and silver/black), with the pink version sporting some hella weird directional keypad.
