Nokia N85 and N79: Now Pre-Orderable
Nokia USA now has both the N85 and N79 smartphones available for pre-order. The prices:
Nokia N85 Phone: $588.90
Nokia N79 Phone: $492.70
There are other alternatives, of course. Everyone’s favorite auction site eBay has listings for the N85 in the mid 500s range, before the MSN Live 25% rebate. Your final price should be a little over $400, a sweet deal indeed. Make sure you double check that it’s the N85 North American version before buying.
The N85 is Nokia’s successor to the N81, adding a dual-slide (dedicated music + gaming buttons), AMOLED display (which looks fantastic), 3.2 megapixel camera (Carl Zeiss), FM transmitter, and a whole buttload of other fun features. This is the phone to get, and I would highly recommend it over the (probably doomed) N96 megaphone.
Meanwhile, the N79 is your N82/N78 upgrade. That means it’s a candy bar with most of the bells and whistles of the N85, minus the screen and the obvious. It’s a solid phone but there really isn’t a whole lot to say about it.
