Forbes Interviews the Nokia Design Chief

November 21, 2008 in Wireless Industry News

Alastair Curtis is Nokia’s Chief Designer, which means he pretty much oversees every phone that gets created. Forbes recently did an interview with the guy, and it’s a great, short read.

Or, for the lazy, here’s the main highlights:

  • Alastair and his team just finished working on the product portfolio for 2010
  • “We’ll see touch coming to the broad Nseries products, too.” – not necessarily new news, but nice to hear that there’s more where the 5800 XpressMusic came from.
  • “But carrying around a 42-inch TV isn’t a reasonable solution. So, how do you make something that’s small in pocket, large in use? That’s where the projector starts to take on value. In a hotel or bar, I could project images to myself or to a larger audience.”
  • “We’ll see not just projectors, but jewel [fold-out] screens and multiple screens in the years to come.”
  • India, Russia, and China will be the new trendsetters.
  • The U.S. is at a “tipping point” in terms of cell phone providers and 3G services.
  • “Personally, I get my greatest inspiration from walking the streets–the energy of cities, whether London, New York or Tokyo, or the countryside.”
