More on the Nokia Tube, Take 2
No, there’s still no firm announcement date for Nokia’s 5800 XpressMusic, aka the Tube, but an article by Forbes sort-of-but-not-really confirms what’s been floating around the ‘net for the past two weeks: the launch of the Tube will be this Thursday, along with Nokia’s new Comes With Music service.
Forbes does mention that the device will probably be priced from $200-$300 bucks (in other words, mid-range, mid-tier, etc). Nokia’s not exactly aiming for the sky with these babies, and definitely not producing them to compete with certain offerings from Apple and Samsung.
According to one analyst, if the Tube starts shipping with the Comes With Music service, it might be more attractive to potential customers. I’d have to disagree, simply based on one argument: Nokia has to make money with the service. Since it can’t guarantee how many customers will stick with the yearly subscription plan after the first “free” year, Nokia will have to roll the costs into actual upfront phone prices – which has been suggested by recent price checks on Expansys.
Details of the phone’s specifications are non-existent, but it is likely to boast third-generation (3G) data speeds and the usual camera/global positioning system smart phone trimmings.
It’s funny that the phone might be announced in three days, yet no one seems to have any real concrete information, Forbes included. Nokia’s definitely figured out how the plug the leaks.
