Preview: The Rest of the Supernova Line (7210, 7310, 7510)
Four phones were released by Nokia on in the last few days of June – among them the 7610 Supernova, 7510, 7310, and 7210. The best of the bunch is without a doubt the 7610, but it seems that there’s something for everyone in the Supernova line.
Nokia 7210 Supernova
Looks just like the Homegrown concept device. The 7210 is a fairly thin (10.6 mm) tri-band candy bar with mostly lackluster features (2 megapixel camera with autofocus/dual-LED flash, 2″ display, a record 10 fps video recording) and subpar battery life. By subpar I mean somewhere in the vicinity of 3 hours talk time on an 860 mAh lithium-ion battery. I must say I’m not impressed. But it does come in some fun colors: bubble gum pink and vivid blue.
Price: 120 euros.
Nokia 7310 Supernova
Another candy bar, the 7310 supernova is a handset that could be either tri-band or quad-band, since the press release displays both. It’s similar to the 7210, except for some mega-drastic changes:
1. Xpress-on covers
2. TV-out connector
3. MyNokia SMS based education service
4. 4 hours of battery life instead of 3, same battery
5. 15 fps video instead of 10
6. 1.35 mm thicker
#3 is Nokia’s new MyNokia service which basically means signing up for the text message mailing list tailored for your phone. Basically they send you tips and product updates which you might normally construe as SPAM. But the service also includes a feature called “My Nokia Backup” which, you might guess, allows you to Backup Your Nokia. Except this is done through SMS and not through PC Suite, which could potentially be a godsend. Potentially.
MyNokia is not available for the USA, and I’m not quite sure why.

Nokia 7510
The only flip phone of the group, Nokia’s 7510 Supernova kind of reminds me of some old Motorola flip that was popular back in the day. Using some techniques formerly employed on phones such as the 6126/6131/6133, the 7510 features the awe-inspiring push-to-open button. Simply press the button and you win!
Slick features include a semi-hidden secondary display (no doubt hidden by that Xpress-on cover), quad-band connectivity, 6 hours of talk time, a 2.2″ 16.7 million color display, and “NIPS” or Nokia’s new low-light image processing algorithm.
Price: 180 euros.
Availability
The Supernova line is slated to release in the fourth quarter of 2008. That’s all for today.
