Nokia’s Plan to Sell “Lots” More Phones in the USA

May 5, 2008 in Nokia Phone News

Nokia’s presence in America has been pretty nonexistent in recent years. Sure, they have a web site and two Flagship stores that stock tons of XpressPlastic phones, but come on – most people in the US of A get cell phones the old fashioned way: from the carrier. And ever since Nokia exited the CDMA market a couple years back, their hold on the market has dropped to a paltry 7 percent.

One part of Nokia's plan to conquer the US market.

One part of Nokia’s plan to conquer the US market.

But if words from one of Nokia’s top designers are anything to go by, the company is moving hard and fast into the USA market:

“In the next few months (U.S.) operators will carry a lot of new products from us,” Alastair Curtis told the paper.

So what new products exactly? Most likely the 3606, 1606, 3555, and possibly some XpressMusic phones that Nokia has been pretty keen on releasing over here.

As part of the plan, Nokia will also resurrect its CDMA line of phones (3606/1606 maybe?) with manufacturing being outsourced to some random companies only to be branded as Nokias. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but at least it’s something.
