Nokia Extra Power DC-8

April 16, 2008

You might remember the DC-1 Power Pack from a long time ago. It was a portable power block that was basically a large battery inside a squatty, rectangular container. Although large is a bit of an overstatement, since the DC-1′s capacity was somewhere in the realm of 960 mAh.

Can’t go wrong with a name like DC-8 Extra Power.

The DC-8 is the next step in the evolution of the power bricks, and this time takes a tube-like form similar to those Nokia’s MD-6 speakers (the red and black ones). It’s a little different from the DC-1 in that there’s no internal battery – or rather, YOU provide the battery, and the DC-8 does the rest. It takes one AA-sized battery (alkaline or NiMH) and has the ability to charge rechargable NiMH batteries.

Best of all, it’s compatible with any 2mm power plug phone which includes most Nseries phones (or it might be all – not sure about the N71 for example) and pretty much every decent, fairly new phone released by Nokia in the past year or two.

Other specifications: the Nokia DC-8 weighs 150 grams and measures 22 x 22 x 73 mm. Takes up to 2 hours to fully charge an NiMH battery.
