Engadget’s Awards 2007: Lots of Apples
The results of Engadget’s 2007 Reader’s Choice/Editor’s Choice awards are in, and the undisputed winner is Apple, with 12 awards. The iPhone alone took home Gadget of the Year, Smartphone of the Year, and Most Anticipated Gadget of 2008 awards from both readers and editors.
The Cellphone of the Year award was taken by Sony Ericsson’s K850, which went against LG’s Prada/Viewty touch-phones, Motorola’s RAZR2, and Samsung’s F700/U620 models. That’s right, not one single Nokia phone up there!
The N95 8GB smartphone lost out to the iPhone (no surprise there), and the Nokia 6110 Navigator lost out to the Garmin nuvi 770 in the GPS Device of the Year category.
Nokia did, however, manage to take one award in the Handheld of the Year category (Reader’s Choice, not Editor’s Choice), for the N810 internet tablet.
What makes the whole Engadget awards fun and entertaining is that it’s actually a big popularity contest – devices are nominated and voted for by users. Or in other words, more people nominated the RAZR2 over any Nokia cell phone. I found that quite interesting, anyway.
