Preview: Nokia 6300i Phone
Nokia's latest triband phone is aimed squarely at the VoIP crowd. At 175 euros, the Nokia 6300i is a pretty affordable budget phone with WLAN, Nokia Maps, and a 2 megapixel camera wrapped up in a Series 40 interface. What, you were expecting Symbian?

There really isn't a whole lot to say about the Nokia 6300i phone. It's loosely based on the hot-selling 6300, a steel-encased thin handset. Unfortunately, the 6300i isn't quite as thin (13.1mm vs the 6300's 11.7mm), and it looks like the steel is gone too.
The main draw here is the addition of WLAN, which allows for seamless VoIP calling and all the bells and whistles that having wi-fi on your phone provides. Minus the cool software available for the Symbian OS, but then again we're dealing with a phone that probably costs a third of the price of most S60 phones.
Standard features abound in the 6300i: expandable microSD (up to 4GB) memory, an FM radio, MP3 player, 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP. The S40 version of Nokia Maps will also be available, even though there's no GPS. Also, purchasers of the device will be treated to a free desk stand.
Battery life could be better though. The Nokia 6300i phone gets 3.5 hours of battery life with GSM, but drops down to a mere 3 hours with VoIP. Standby times are 14 days and 4 days, respectively.
The Nokia 6300i will be available sometime in the second quarter of 2008 (which would be pretty soon) for the bargain-basement price of 175 Euros.
