Preview: Nokia 3555 Phone

Sexy is back. So said Nokia, with the release of the 6555 seamless flip phone last year. And I guess the AT&T-exclusive Nokia 6555 worked out for them, because now we have a sister phone: the (T-mobile exclusive?) 3555.

So is the Nokia 3555 an impressive phone? Not really. It’s quad-band and supports 3G frequencies (WCDMA 1700 and 2100), but otherwise it’s not too different from your typical Nokia Series 40 Beater Phone.

It’s a step below the 6555, although as mentioned before both phones feature the smooth-back flip design. The Nokia 3555′s screen is smaller (1.8″ 128×160 pixels vs. the QVGA 240×320 pixel on the 6555), the camera is crappier (0.3 megapixel VGA vs. 1.3 megapixel), and the “official” battery talk time is shorter. Although the 6555 was rated for up to 6 hours of battery life, a lot of users complained about only getting 2-3 hours of talk time max, so maybe someone at Nokia typo’ed the 6555′s Technical Specifications and switched the 3/6 keys. The good news is that they fixed the typo for the 3555. The bad news is the BL-5C battery will (officially) give you only 3 hours of talk time.

One last thing of note: Nokia took the time to list every Bluetooth profile compatible with the 3555, and A2DP (wireless stereo music profile) wasn’t one of them. That’s too bad, because I’m not too sure what else you’ll do with the microSD slot (that supports 4 gigabyte mSD cards).

Nokia didn’t give a date for the Nokia 3555, but if I had to guess I’d say: third quarter 2008.
