February 5, 2008

Nokia’s Beta Labs recently released Location Tagger, a small application that automatically adds GPS coordinates to your pictures.

Nokia Beta Labs: Location Tagger

Nokia’s Location Tagger lets you add GPS coordinates to your pics.

While it’s infinitely more useful with integrated-GPS Nseries phones – the N95, N95 8GB, and N82 – you can use it with pretty much any Symbian 3rd Edition phone provided you’e got an external GPS receiver handy.

The big question is, however: what exactly do you do with location based images? Besides bragging about it to your friends, you can upload the newly-tagged images to some online photo sharing service, such as Flickr or Panoramio. Both services support JPEG files with EXIF headers and let you view your photos along with a nice aerial map (Panoramio lets you export the GPS coordinates to Google Earth).

Like Nokia Conversation, this app is something that should definitely be standard on every (Nokia) phone with an integrated GPS.
