So What’s Palm Doing These Days?

January 29, 2008 in Wireless Industry News

Closing its stores, that’s what. Wait – stores? What stores?

Palm closes 34 of its 35 retail stores.

Back when Palm had a nice lion’s share of the smartphone/PDA device market, the company opened up eight stand-alone stores and a whole crop of “Airport Wireless” shops.

Those stores are now officially part of Palm’s history. On Thursday, the company closed all but one of the retail spaces in an effort to lower costs and get its service provider partners to do the selling for them. I’d also like to hope that Palm’s on the verge of developing a new, innovative product that isn’t just a crappy portable email machine.

Interesting fact: the last store to remain open is the one located in Palm’s headquarters.
