The Future of Nokia Entertainment

December 10, 2007 in Wireless Industry News

The folks at Shiny Red (the people who handle Nokia’s press related stuff, I think) were kind enough to share some new videos put together by Nokia and The Future Laboratory. The subject? The future of mobile entertainment, blogs, music and pretty much the entire world.

The Official Nokia Entertainment Report.

These aren’t exactly the “whoa” type of viral Youtube videos that Nokia released in early January that showcased the devices of tomorrow. They consist of two guys – Timo Veikkola (Senior Future Specialist Nokia Design) and Tom Savigar (Trends Director at The Future Laboratory). But it’s a good indication of where Nokia is probably heading, straight from the horse’s mouth.

The joint effort between Nokia and the Future Laboratory resulted in a massive study about how users (specifically, people in the 16-35 range who own a mobile phone) interact with current digital media. One nice statistic: 17% of those surveyed play an online multiplayer role playing game.

So, according to this study, the next four big trends will be “immersive living” (being connected to everything no matter where you are), “Geek Culture” (more sophisticated devices), “G Tech” (a switch to more feminine traits), and “Localism” (a preference for the home-grown, as the press release puts it).

The videos are broken up into five segments. Check ‘em out for the real nitty-gritty on the future of mobile entertainment.
