Sprint Nextel CEO goes bye-bye

October 8, 2007 in Wireless Industry News

Sprint Nextel’s board of directors is looking for a new candidate to replace Gary Forsee, ex-Chairman, President, and CEO – after announcing a disappointing earnings forecast for the third quarter.

This guy is now gone.

This guy is going, going, gone.

Forsee oversaw the company’s original merger with Nextel, and more recently has focused efforts on WiMax, a wide area high speed network still in development, at the expense of its wireless service division.

In the third quarter, Sprint said it expected to lose about 337,000 customers, and lowered its revenue forecast to under $11 billion dollars.

While shares of Sprint Nextel fell almost 3% today, the stock staged a temporary comeback in after hours trading.

“It is the right time to put in place new leadership to move the company forward in improving its performance and realizing corporate objectives,” board member Irvine Hockaday said in a company statement.
