Nokia N95 vs. iPhone...again

These days everyone seems to want to compare each and every smartphone, PDA or other handheld device to the iPhone. Fortune magazine just happens to be the latest to put the two phones next to each other.

Fortune's side-by-side comparison of the Nokia N95 and the iPhone.

Fortune's side-by-side comparison of the Nokia N95 and the iPhone.

So what's the verdict? The N95, IF it were cheaper than the $399 iPhone. Although the article only takes into account the N95-3 (new USA version), and not the original N95 which can be had for the mid-500 range.

Advantages of the N95: it's unlocked, the Symbian OS, camera, GPS, 3G/HSDPA, sturdier
Advantages of the iPhone: Bigger screen (3.5"), user interface, price tag

So which to buy? Though both offer excellent features, the N95 is faster and gives you the freedom to roam. But some users might not think that freedom is worth an extra $300. Were it not for the phone's hefty price tag, Nokia just might give Apple a run for its money.

On a related topic, I do like Nokia's new "open to anything" ad campaign for mobile phones in the USA (in other words, completely unlocked, in terms of both the network and the OS):

Nokia - open to anything (taken from Gizmodo)

The ads are being posted in and around New York City. But I think the big question is, can Nokia really gain a huge foothold into the USA market (it's currently #4) just by selling unlocked phones through its website and two retail stores?
