Apple’s Next Update Could Disable Unlocked iPhones

September 24, 2007

Now this is funny. Apple actually issued a warning today that the company’s next iPhone update - to be released later this week - may disable any handsets that have been unlocked through software hacks.

Unlocked iPhones could be disabled by the next software update.

Unlocked iPhones could be disabled by the next software update.

Apple executives say they have discovered that many of those unauthorized unlocking programs cause some software damage to iPhones.

Software damage. Wow.

One of Apple’s senior VPs also made a statement during an interview, saying that Apple would not be responsible for any programs that have caused damage to the iPhone, and that the company was also not purposely targeting unocked iPhones with the update.

And in other iPhone-related stupid news, even though the retail price of the handset has dropped to $399, auctions on eBay are still ending at well over the 400 dollar mark. We’re not talking unlocked iPhones either. (although some of those are going for 500+) Get a clue people!
