Nokia Issues Battery Warning (BL-5C)

August 14, 2007

Nokia today announced a “product advisory” for the its most widely used lithium-ion battery, model BL-5C. A short circuit while charging one of these batteries could cause overheating. No reports of any explosions, however.

The battery in question was manufactured by Matsushita from December 2005 and November 2006.

While actual incidents involving the BL-5C are pretty rare (about 100 out of 46 million batteries), you can request a replacement battery if you have one of the affected models.
