Matsushita to Pay Up to $170 Million for Battery Fiasco

After releasing a product advisory for over 46 million Nokia BL-5C batteries, Nokia announced that Matsushita would cover all the costs associated with the recall.

According to Matsushita, the estimated cost would be somewhere between $85 million and $170 million dollars (USD).

About 100 of the BL-5C batteries were found to overheat while being charged, but there were no "serious" injuries due to the defective batteries.
