Add Wireless AMBER Alerts to Your Phone

Not quite referring to those colorful names for US National Security threat levels, the wireless AMBER alert project allows law enforcement to send out a text message whenever a child is kidnapped.

Wireless AMBER Alerts

How does it work? When you first opt into the program, you'll choose up to five zip codes - if an alert is triggered in any one of these areas you specified, a text message will be sent to your phone (free of charge). The message will contain information about the abduction and a phone number that you can use to call if you have any possible information.

According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), over 260 children has been saved through the AMBER alerts, which is pretty cool.

The whole service is free, and by providing your wireless number you won't be hit with any funky spam messages.

You can sign up to receive alerts at the Wireless AMBER Alerts official site.
