August 27, 2007

When you needed a extra boost of battery power for your mobile phone, you had to resort to a third-party solution: disposable batteries, solar charges, or even a foot crank. No longer.

Nokia DC-1 Power Pack to be available in Q4

Designed by Nokia so you don’t have to rely on foot-crankin’ to power your dead battery.

Nokia announced the Power Pack DC-1, a squarish device that either resembles a pillbox or MD player, I’m not sure which. Designed to give you power when a travel charger is not an option, the DC-1 holds what Nokia calls “the equivalent of three batteries.” Wow!

Unfortunately, Nokia’s equivalent of three batteries is a mere 960 mAh – isn’t that equal to 1 battery? No matter. The power pack will let you charge your two devices at the same time, and supports the smaller 2.5mm interface.

While the idea is very cool even with Nokia’s two extra battery shortchanging, it’ll cost you approximately 105 euros (about $142 USD).

The Nokia Power Pack DC-1 will be available globally in the fourth quarter of 2007.
