Google Winner in Texting Services Comparison

SmartMoney did a short review on four text-messaging services that are supposed to be the new 411 - texting you back with local listings or general information. The winner? Google. (no surprise there)

AskMeNow

AskMeNow, one of the losers as deemed by SmartMoney.

When searching for nearby pizza places, the losers (which included AskMeNow and 4Info) gave listings for a Cuban cafe, and out-of-date phone numbers for pizza parlors.

Another test for current weather in Central Park returned the temperature in Naples, Italy - again from AskMeNow.

Meanwhile, upstart UpSNAP provided a less-than-adequate answer for a search on stores carrying baseball bats.

If you'd like to try out the services yourself, here's the numbers:

Text Messaging Info Services
Google:46645
AskMeNow:27563
UpSNAP:27627
4Info:44636
