Previews: Nokia 1200 and 1208 Phones

May 9, 2007 in Nokia Phone News

It’s a general rule that Nokia’s phones get crappier as the numbers go down. Until Nokia decides to actually implement a new naming convention, the 1200 series will still be polar opposites to, say, the N95s or 8800 series. And let’s not forget the triple-digit phones like the 660 that are still waiting for color screen transplants.

So you need to have an open mind when it comes to the Nokia 1200 and 1208 phones. Built almost exclusively for India, the 1200/1208 handsets have “special” features that are optimized for what Nokia calls the “rural” areas of the earth.

Both mobile phones feature multi-user phonebooks (5 different contact lists per phone), an application that limits call times or usage costs, and a one-piece keypad that protects the unit from getting crop dusted. There’s also localized languages, one-touch flashlight, a teaching mode, and a pretty impressive battery life (up to 7 hours).

The only difference seems to be a black and white screen on the 1200, and a color screen on the 1208.

The Nokia 1200 and 1208 phones will be available in the third quarter of 2007.
