Preview: Blackberry Curve

May 10, 2007 in Other Mobile Phones

Ater a rough fourth-quarter, Research in Motion bounced back with the release of a new device – the 8300 Curve.

The Blackberry Curve

With an appearance that looks pretty much like any other Blackberry out there, the combination media smartphone and PDA will still likely brainwash yet even more loyal followers to RIM’s cause. Not to mention keeping them from the likes of Apple, Nokia and Motorola (and Samsung).

In terms of features, the Curve is one-part standard enterprise Blackberry fare with the push email and instant messaging and whatnot and one-part consumer smartphone. Unlike most Blackberry models, it has a 2 megapixel camera and Media Player which should handle all of your audio/video needs. The 8300 Curve also includes Blackberry Maps, which looks like a crappier version of Nokia’s smart2go.

All in all, I started this preview hoping to find some breakthrough technology or innovative feature that would make the Curve standout as a consumer phone, but unfortunately it looks like YABB: yet another BlackBerry!

For some reason, T-Mo only seems to offer Nokia entry-level phones. If you can talk T-Mobile USA into offering a Nokia E61 and get Nokia to add a good camera to it(which I know Nokia can do), I’ll be first in line to buy one. Until then, RIM seems to be doing a good job courting the consumer.

Whoa what bitterness…but I guess that’s to be expected from a “nokiaphoneblog” website.
