Nokia to Hit 40% Market Share?

Very possible, said Nokia CFO Rick Simonson today during the Lehman Brothers Worldwide Wireless and Wireline Conference in New York.

Apple iPhone

Some tidbits during the conference.

It turns out that Motorola's misstep in flooding the phone markets with tons of discounted RAZRs screwed not only Motorola, but also other phone manufacturers as well. However, since the beleaguered phone giant is working to increase profitability instead of just selling crappy phones for cheap prices, the price war, at least for now, is officially over.

Another hot topic at the conference was the Apple iPhone, which Simonson said was "real competition" for Nokia's products. On the other hand, it also says something about the high-end multimedia device market - people are willing to shell out tons of money for feature-rich mobile phones that do more than just make calls and calculate tips.

The eagerly-awaited iPhone will be arriving in June and will battle it out with several other high-end contenders such as the Nokia N95 and LG Prada.
