AT&T Wins Against NASCAR and Buddies

May 19, 2007 in Wireless Industry News

You might recall a certain legal battle between AT&T, NASCAR, and Sprint/Nextel.

As of Friday, a judge granted AT&T the right to change its old Cingular logo to the new AT&T one on Jeff Burton’s Car #31. The argument between AT&T and friends stems from Sprint/Nextel signing an agreement to be the exclusive telecom advertiser for the racing circuit. Cingular was allowed to stay on as a sponsor since its contract was signed before the NASCAR/Sprint agreement went into effect. This of course caused an uproar when AT&T took over Cingular and of course had to repaint the car.

According to NASCAR, the ruling might lead to Sprint suing the circuit due to Sprint’s exclusive $700 million dollar contract.
