What a Stupid Argument

As if we didn't have enough pointless lawsuits, here's yet another one that qualifies for Stupid News.

Cingular/AT&T vs. Sprint/Nextel/NASCAR: who will win?

1v3: AT&T vs. Sprint, Nextel, and NASCAR

The facts:

1. Cingular sponsors Car #31 for NASCAR.
2. Cingular merged with AT&T and is slowly being phased out.
3. Sprint/Nextel sponsors NASCAR, to the tune of a $700 million deal which makes Sprint the exclusive telecom company at NASCAR. This doesn't affect grandfathered (telecom companies that were already sponsors before the deal occurred)
4. Cingular wants to change the logo on Car #31 to the AT&T logo.
5. Sprint doesn't like that.

So of course both sides are fighting for their rights in this silly courtroom battle. Cingular/AT&T claims that the logo change should be allowed since it's the same company, while NASCAR says they have to defend Sprint's exclusivity agreement.

The latest news was that no decision was reached by a U.S. District court judge after listening to hours of arguments from both sides.
