Motorola Wins Lawsuit

No, this isn't about Qualcomm. However, a lawsuit between the University of Texas and Motorola, Inc. ended as the judge ruled in favor of the #2 phone manufacturer. Call it the first bright spot in a long series of bad news for MOT.

The suit claimed that specific Motorola mobile phones were infringing on text messaging patents held by the University of Texas.

Although a ruling has been reached in Motorola's favor, the university can (and probably will) appeal the court's decision. Motorola responded in kind, "you got served."

Actually, it went more like this: "[Motorola will] defend the court's ruling aggressively in the event that University of Texas System files an appeal." Uh huh, sure.
