I am getting the "Error!" message have you got the troubleshooting tips up yet ?

When I install NSS I do not have an option on the USB driver install page to say NO, I have to install the virtual (or other) drivers, so I do not understand the line in your instructions :-

Install NSS. Very straightforward installation, answer 'NO' when asked if you want to install virtual USB drivers.

I have with my Nokia PC Suite connected and not connected to the phone, but opening the NSS application and clicking I get "Error!"

I connected my N80 by USB cable under "PC Suite" and when I run NSS and search for the device nothing happens, just freezes until eventually the program officially stop responding.

When installing I get the option for what service devices I will be using - which should I select? Also, I'm running Vista Ultimate, an issue?

i'll be finishing up the troubleshooting section today.

@paul: choose "virtual USB device" for the service devices question...and i'd bet that your problem is related to vista. i would give it a try on a different computer running xp.

Which Euro Region do I use for the UK ?

i hav recently updated my N80 firmware to latest ....
but now i am facing one problem and it is that whenever i send any service command ..there is no output to that.
Can anyone help

when you update via nss i thought you also had to run gsm MAGIC to enable writing of new product number. i have updated my n80 about 4 months ago. and it was worth it. still very confused as to why every one keeps saying fw 4.0707 0 is very buggy as i have suffered any at all. to all who are tempted be brave and give it a go:-)

i didn't have to use gsm-magic to change the product code, only nss.

please can somebody tell me wich code of this 3 contents italian languge:

Great tips.
I was having probs, but got it too work by removing all related apps, changing USB port, and using XP in bootcamp, (had been trying in parallels b4).

Then i reinstalled NSS and that didn't do it.
I then reinstalled JUST the Nokia "Connectivity Cable Driver".
Tried NSS again, and it worked.. ace.

This Blog gave me the confidence to persevere. I was begining to think that i needed box of tricks, but i dont! hurahh!

Hey guys i updated my n80's firmware from4.0623.0.41 to 4.0707.0.7 everything else is fine the only problemis when i type in a service command i dont get any answer.not on any service.

I've just updated my N80ie to the latest firmware 4.0707.0.7 but I now regret because, each time I switch the phone off it reset the time and date more over I don't receive any answer for the service command Msgs as Geonono encounters - I wish i go back to my earlier version of firmware it was with no problems, does anyone can advise me whta to do now? I think to sell the phone even if with half the cost I bought with (I just bought it a week ago!!!)

Thats a known bug of v4.0707.0.7, there's a new FW 5.0719.0.2, all codes work again and is muck more stable.

I have attempted to upgrade my N80 (Telstra AU). I has run NSS and changed the product code to N80i [4.0623.41 to 5.0719.0.2] However, NSU recognizes the phone and shows update to 5 is available yet the update button is grayed and does not operate. Any idea what is going on?

Hi all. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this page, the comments are really helpful. I just updated by UK branded (Orange) mobile from 0535061/4.0623.0.42 (product-code/fw) to 0538301(EURO 1 Patina Bronze Internet Edition)/5.0719.0.2.

I used NSS to change the code and then the Nokia update utility.

everything worked fine for me till i restored my phones data. now my "internet" folder has disappeared. any idea how to get that back?

I upgraded to firmware 5.0719.0.2 with wrong code, after corrected the code and tried to upgrade again, but system replied said I'm using latest firmware, and need no to upgrade.
Can anyone help how to replace the correct firmware with correct code to overwrite/replace it?

Works for me in new zealand....just follow the steps and you will be ok.
now have gizmo and flickr working..turns a good phone into a great phone

Though had to change to Euro3 tried the Australia N80i and it said my sw ver was up to date when it was still the old version.
So if ur trying a version and you cant update change to another compatible one if possible and NSS stoped reading my code so I just had to change it, reguardless, thanx for the help :)

Worked for me too.

used 0538301 EURO 1
updated to fw: 5.0719.0.2
no problems

i updated my n80 to IE and it was successfully, after a few minutes my screen turned black and my phone doesn't work anymore, can someone help me with this? Y_Y

this was great iv bean trying to update my n80 ever since my n80ie was taken from me by a 02 shop who said they could not repair the slider and and gave me a n80 and said n80ie was not available any more still fighting that battle with them and nokia any way thank this site hard to find but worth the time spent

Installed NSS without a problem on a computer that did not have any nokia software installed in it before. Had problems reading the product code (ERROR). I noticed that windows had detected my Nokia N80, allowed windows xp to look for drivers online, which it did and installed them successfully. After that, had no problems reading the product code etc

I flashed my RM-91 N80 with a RM-92 firmware :( and now the phone doesn't even boot :( All I see is that annoying N O K I A homescreen.
Can any of you guys recommend me how to go about fixing it? Any links? Or is there a reputed cell phone repair store in US that you know off?

Oh boy! This is golden. I upgraded my N80 (RM-91) to N80i in a rather brute force way.
NSS would keep giving me read and write errors, so I used Phoenix, Diego and a firmware that I had downloaded off of a torrent site. I recently bought an iPhone, so i was kind of okay with the prospect of killing my N80.
And indeed, I killed it by the time I was done with firmware upgrade.
This is when I started feeling bad about the whole upgrade thing, cuz I used my N80 as my VoIP phone. My phone would never boot now, it would just get stuck at Nokia logo and even the famous "Connecting people handshake" image won't come up.
I searched a lot of forums, blogs, diggs - you name it. After 14 hours of continuous dicking around, I found a solution - I tried it and BINGO. I got the feeling that I was the happiest guy alive on the face of this earth!!!!
Here's what I had to do (in case someone who's reading this in future has similar problem)
1. Take the battery out and wait for like 10-15 seconds (not necessary, but I think it's probably a good idea to let it power cycle)
2. Press and hold the Green\Call button, 3 number key, and the * key - all together at once - and do not release these keys.
3. Now, while the keys still being held, turn the phone on - yah this was a weird thing to do with my hands\fingers.
4. DO NOT release the three keys, but you can release the power key once phone is on.
5. Voila! You are back in business.

If the NSS gives u error when u try to connect to your phone just uninstall pc suite usb drivers for nokia and nsu and then install older version of the nokia usb driver and not the latest one and it will work!
