Nokia Image Album PD-1
Nokia has a line of accessories that do nothing else but display images on a portable screen. Some of the included devices are part of the "Imagewear" line, like the Nokia Kaleidoscope, and some are just standard, everyday image viewers.
Nokia's latest accessory in this category is the PD-1, also known as the Image Album.
So this beast of a device has a 20 gigabyte hard drive and stores pictures, video clips, and MMS/SMS.
Getting items onto the PD-1 is actually pretty easy - It connects through almost any method out there: USB connection to computer/digitial camera, memory card slot, mobile phone via Bluetooth/IR.
Once you've got your collection of whatever stored on the hard drive, you can do a bunch of fun things with the Image Album. The obvious choice is to hook up the PD-1 to your NTSC or PAL TV with the standard composite cables and display your content in slideshow mode. But you can also write image comments, transfer stuff to a compatible phone , print your images, or backup your content to a CD.
That's right. You can connect a USB CD writer to the back of the Nokia Image Album and easily backup all your precious memories onto a compact disc. Very, very cool. Never mind the fact that you could also connect your phone to your computer and burn it that way.
Printing out pictures requires a Bluetooth-compatible printer. Not too many of those around.
It would be quite interesting if someone out there could hack the Image Album and turn it into a little multimedia device for playing, say, XviD movies. I have to say, the Nokia PD-1 has a lot of potential.
