Sagem + Sony Ericsson = :(

March 27, 2007

The latest news is that Sagem and Sony Ericsson signed a licensing deal today. The terms included Sagem providing the latter with new “entry-level” aka budget mobile phones, branded as Sony Ericsson of course.

Sagem and Sony Ericsson signed a licensing deal today.

Sagem is a “unit of the Safran group, a French aerospace, defense and communications equipment maker.” A long, long, time ago, rumor had it that the likes of Motorola were interested in Sagem, but no deal ever surfaced. Sagem’s parent company SAFRAN had been making a sincere effort to unload the company into someone else’s hands - all for naught. Too bad, really. Sagem’s phones were never exactly the hottest phones to hit the market.

So saying that, I’m still not sure if this collaboration is a good thing or a bad thing. Looks like only time will tell.
