Free Phones for the Rich and Famous

According to yet another article by Forbes, phone manufacturers are battling left and right for celebs’ affections -
doling out free phones (8801s in Nokia’s case) in celebrity goody bags at awards shows.

And why not? For the cost of the phone and the price of adding items to a goody bag, a manufacturer could have another RAZR hit on their hands. Although the price to sneak in a little something into said goody bag can run almost as much as 50 grand, it also costs $240,000 to run a full page ad in People magazine.

Of course, things don’t always work out that well: T-mobile’s Sidekick has been sighted on TV shows, glittering in the hands of certain NBA stars, etc, but only 373,000 “normal” people currently have one.
