Ed Zander is in the Dog House

February 20, 2007 in Wireless Industry News

Forbes has a great article that’s all about bashing Ed Zander (CEO of Motorola) and his multi-billion dollar company due to a pretty lousy performance in the past year.

Motorola CEO Ed Zander

Among other things, the article argues that Zander is NOT responsible for the success of the RAZR, and since the RAZR there has been, well…not a whole lot.

“It took me more than two years to realize that all the press and credit Zander so willingly accepted for the smash success of the Razr was for actions generated by others long before he arrived at Motorola. Consider that it takes about three years to bring new electronics products to market. Zander arrived just over three years ago. This last six months is exactly when his first line of products should have been on the shelves. But the shelves are bare! If you are the captain, whose responsibility is it that the good ship Motorola has run aground?”

As soon as I saw my proxy to vote my 2K shares with Zander and Dorman’s name on it I knew why the company was in trouble. Zander and Dorman are cut of the same cloth, armchair Mon. morning quarterbacks, who never had an original thought in their collective minds. Dorman was asked to leave the phone Co.in Calif. He was raised to the highest level of his incompetance -enough damage there for sure! The terms bombastic, blowhard, knuckledraggers comes to mind! The best Zander can do is to discount Icahn trying to throw the spotlight off himself. He should have been marketing Motorola all over the world to professional sports teams, showing everyone what Moto has done in America, then go after the minor leagues, schools, pony leagues, men’s, junior leagues and university sports. Make an offering to a school, highlight it on tv, print media etc. get the name back in the sports specialty world. The Olympics are coming up – where is Zander? Does this man even have a brain wave? Get those contracts, contacts and back to radio wave, that is what you do best! Where are the “sunglasses with the radio phone we saw at the electronics show in Vegas”?
