Phone Preview: Nokia N76 Phone

Nokia’s first slim phone is here. It’s not exactly what I’d call long-awaited though.

The Nokia N76 phone is what I’d call bittersweet: while smaller and far better (feature-wise) than any RAZR in existence, I have a nice long list of complaints.

At 13.7 mm, the N76 is Nokia’s slimmest (quad-band) smartphone to date. That’s the good part.

The bad part?

The battery is a mere 700 mAh, which by Nokia’s standards are good for up to 2 hours of talk time on WCDMA/3G, or 165 minutes (2.75 hours) on GSM. Wow. There’s always some sacrifice when designing a thin phone, but man – I can’t help but feel a little disappointed.

The camera is an average 2 megapixel. A little on the low-end, but it does include a flash, video recording, photo editing, and some nice photo-taking options.

Other than that, there isn’t much else to talk about. Symbian 3rd Edition, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and A2DP, expandable microSD memory card support, and a whopping 26 megabytes of internal storage. Take that, Apple iPhone!

The Nokia N76 is expected to retail for 390 Euros (about $509 US Dollars), and will start shipping first quarter 2007.
