Phone Preview: Nokia 6085 Phone

September 13, 2006

Nokia has been a very busy bee lately. Hot on the heels of the new L’amour collection models, Nokia rolled out yet another new camera phone, the Nokia 6085.

The Nokia 6085 Phone

For starters, the 6085 is a mid-tier quad-band clamshell phone. It’s got the typical bells and whistles for a mid-tier phone - Bluetooth, camera, expandable microSD memory, FM radio and music player. However, Nokia has NOT released the specs on the camera - which makes me figure that it probably isn’t that impressive.

There’s a fairly simple external display on the phone, and the main screen supports up to 262k colors. Note that the external display is one single color: blue.

The 6085 seems very similar to all the clamshell phones that Samsung made famous: semi-budget phones that have some decent features, but no real OOMPH feature that stands out from the crowd. I guess that’s why it’s priced as it is: 175 Euros ($222 USD) before tax/subsidies. I’m sure we’ll start seeing this Nokia phone around as the free mobiles that are given out with 2 year contracts.

Meanwhile, I’m still wondering why Nokia hasn’t released any thin sized phones to combat the RAZR. Given what a piece of garbage the RAZR is, a Nokia branded phone even with these features would be a force to consider. And I think it would be quite sad if Apple beat out Nokia to the punch by releasing a thin Smartphone.

The Nokia 6085 will be available in several colors: royal pink, seagull silver, black, and baller gold.
