On Monday, Nokia and Motorola jointly announced a new agreement to achieve "interoperability" with DVB-H, also known as mobile TV. Basically this means they both support DVB-H "open standards." Unfortunately the press release didn't go into any further detail. Even more unfortunately, it'll be quite a long while until DVB-H comes to America...if it ever does.

On Tuesday, Nokia and Electronic Arts (EA - the people who make those sports games that you hate) announced a partnership in which EA will develop software not only for Series 60 Nokia mobile phones, but also for Nokia's Content Discoverer. Content Discoverer is like a mobile strip-mall (sorry, paraphrasing the press release ain't easy) where handset users can purchase games and applications from numerous online stores. The first few titles expected to launch are: Tetris, Tetris Mania, The Sims 2, Doom, FIFA 06, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 and FIFA Street 2. It's a little scary how EA used to be only about sports games, and yet - Tetris?

Remember the Nokia E62 phone? No, of course you don't. It was buried in a pool of FCC phone reports twenty feet deep. The E62 is Nokia's Blackberry Killer manufactured for Cingular in the US. It's also a slightly downgraded version of the E61, which is the original Blackberry Killer. At any rate, the phone is no longer a rumor - Cingular reported that the E62 will be available for $149.99.

Nokia shares (NYSE: NOK) dropped more than 2% today due to a large manufacturing partner lowering earnings guidance. The Finnish company Elcoteq claimed that "weak volumes in Europe and unsatisfactory profit growth in the Americas" would have a largely negative impact on third-quarter earnings. While no one knows for sure, some analysts estimate that Nokia provides as much as 50% of Elcoteq's revenues. Could this be an indicator of Nokia's third-quarter earnings? Stay tuned.

And on the flip side, Motorola's (NYSE: MOT) stock price rose a little over 2% today on the news of Elcateq's woes. Motorola also announced that the new MOTORAZR v3i would be released exclusively on Cingular. The MOTORAZR is MOT's latest iTunes enabled phone and follows on the heels of the MOTOROKR and MOTOSLVR. I personally hate both phones and I'm sure I'll hate the newest addition too. Anyway, this is a Nokia blog, not a MOT blog, so enough of this nonsense!
