Nokia Wireless Plug-in Car Handsfree HF-33W

September 3, 2006 in Nokia Phone Accessories

So now I’m back from my Vegas trip, and as expected it was a ton of fun.

Today we’ll be looking at the HF-33W Handsfree plug. Nokia keeps rolling these things out like hotcakes. I think this is the third or fourth one that I’ve done in the past couple of months already.

Well, to start off, the HF-33W definitely looks a lot better looking than its cousins Inner Tube and Golf Club (also known as the HF-35W and HF-6W). For those not acquainted with these devices, the HF series of Nokia products are car loudspeakers/microphones for your compatible Nokia Bluetooth phone that are powered by your cigarette lighter/DC plug. If you drive a manual car, then a handsfree solution like this is an excellent choice. Of course, you can always wear those silly headsets.

Like its predecessors in the HF line, the Nokia HF-33W includes a flexible hinge that allows it to be positioned and rotated around for optimal sound receiving. It also has a DSP (digital signal processing) unit that attempts to reduce echo and other weird background noises.

The best part of these wireless plug-in handsfree devices is that they’re really just plug-and-play. All you really have to do is hook it up into the cigarette lighter, pair the device with your phone and you’re really set. If you need to change the volume, activate voice dialing, or transfer a call to your cell phone, you can do it with the buttons on the device.

The only negative I see here is that this headset uses Bluetooth 1.1/1.2, and because of that you lose out on some of the newer features of Bluetooth 2.0. To be honest, I don’t see why Nokia didn’t go the extra step and implement 2.0. Really a waste.

The Nokia HF-33W is expected to be released in Europe in the third quarter of 2006, and everywhere else in the fourth quarter.

In the meantime, I’m going to attempt to sleep off the jet lag from my trip. Good night.

It would be useful if reviews of the Nokia HF-33W mentioned whether the device is full-duplex or half-duplex; some of the competing items definitely are only half-duplex.
