Accessory: Xpress-On Fun Shell for the Nokia 3220 Phone

July 18, 2006 in Nokia Phone Accessories

I like the odd, ridiculous and the absurd. That’s why today I’m featuring the Nokia Xpress-On Fun Shell. I’m still scratching my head as to why this product was actually made.

More in the extended entry.

The Nokia Xpress-On Fun Shell

Well, first things first: the Xpress-On Fun Shell is ONLY compatible with the Nokia 3220 phone. So don’t go trying to “attach” it to your N90 or your 6125s or 1110s. It just won’t work, and the result will be something even uglier than the stock Xpress-On Fun Shell.

The Xpress-On Fun Shell was created to add some additional functionality to the Nokia 3220. It actually features integrated “acceleration sensors” that let you use your 3220 in new and exciting ways.

What’s the point of these sensors? Games. The Fun Shell is compatible with only 2 games: Swamp Racer and Air Express. However, the shell adds an extra dimension by capturing your motions (which are basically tilts and small movements). And it’s cheaper than a Wii too!

The 2 games are integrated into the shell itself and you can’t download new motion sensing games. You can, however, download new characters and levels for the two games. Interestingly, Nokia released the code to control the acceleration sensors for the Fun Shell – so you might actually be able to find other games or applications for this phone. (all Java powered however)

In addition to these fun-filled games, the Nokia Xpress-On Fun Shell can also create special “wave messages.” What that means is it uses the 12 integrated LED lights on the back cover that display a message when you actually wave the phone around. Amazing!

You can even create a 90 pixel image and wave it around for everyone to see.

There’s no retail price for the Xpress-On Fun Shell – however, it will be available to customers in Europe, Asia, and North America.
