Phone Preview: Nokia 6305i Phone

So it seems like the trend these days are slider phones. They’ve been popping up, ever so slowly, into the willing hands of teenagers and the collegiates everywhere. That’s right. The “cool” kids. Almost every phone manufacturer has embraced at least some kind of slider form factor cell phone in the past year, and Nokia is one of them. However, for the most part Nokia’s sliders have been higher end phones (N80, 6270). They’ve also been GSM.

The Nokia 6305i is Nokia’s attempt to create a cool, cheap slider phone for the Verizon CDMA masses. More in the full entry.

Starting with the basics, the Nokia 6305i has a 176×220 pixel screen – not exactly generously sized there. The display does support up to 262,144 colors however.

The camera on the 6305i is your standard 1.3 megapixel that also includes an integrated flash. There’s the typical camera bells and whistles such as digital zoom (yippie), video recording, and dedicated camera keys.

There’s no expandable memory but the 6305i contains 128 megabytes of internal memory.

Nokia is touting the Get It Now and the VCAST features for this phone. Basically that means you can quickly and easily “buy” games, applications, and ringtones for your 6305i and it’ll be added to your Verizon bill. VCAST is Verizon’s high-speed streaming network that lets you play sports highlights, commercials, short video clips, and music on your VCAST enabled phone.

Other notable features are the loudspeaker, a “built-in flashlight” (that’s your camera flash there, bud) and the infamous tip calculator.

One interesting point: the Nokia 6305i phone uses an 1100 mah battery which to me seems a little overkill. Although Verizon phones DO use up a little more battery power when on the network. The talk time is still rated at a below average 3.5 hours.

I like how there’s an integrated audio jack on the phone. Now why can’t they add this to their other cell phones? (namely the GSM ones!)
