Phone Preview: Nokia E62 Phone
Word on the street (meaning the FCC) is that Nokia’s got a new phone destined for the US market: the Nokia E62.
The Nokia E62 phone is a BlackBerry-style Eseries device that is quite similar to the E61. However, the E62 suffers from a couple of oddities- namely, no wi-fi (what!), no WCDMA 3G support, and no pop-port connector (there’s a standard mini usb instead).
The Nokia E62 Phone

Standard series 60 phone features abound on the Nokia E62: expandable memory with miniSD card, symbian 9.1, bluetooth 1.2, mp3/video capable. The only thing lacking is the camera, and from what we’ve seen that seems to be in line with the rest of the Eseries business phones.
The E61 has already been approved by the FCC. No word on why Nokia would release two phones that are almost identical. They’re both quad-band, Blackberry-killer phones with the same series 60 interface - the E62 is just missing some key elements.
Update: Perceptive Sciences’ did an in-depth usability review of the Nokia E62 against the likes of the Palm Treo, Blackberry, and Motorola Q. Final score: 3.5 out of 4.
Is Nokia planning on selling both phones at different price points? Or is there something more sinister afoot? Only time wil tell…
