Rumor Mill: Nokia N96 Phone?

The rumor mill is open for business: several shots of a previously-unheard-of Nokia N96 device were recently released onto a random Chinese forum site. Judging by the pictures, the N96 is a smartphone with a dual slider and looks that so closely resemble the N81 phone that I’m almost inclined to call it fake.

I figure a couple of pictures will tell the story better than I ever could:

In terms of looks, the N96 is really just a wider N81. It has the same rounded edges, annoying keypad setup (with the call/send and end keys pushed to the sides), and what looks like another navi-wheel. The big differences lie in the camera (5 megapixel, Carl Zeiss, dual LED flash), screen (bigger screeen, well – bigger than the N81’s, anyway), and this funky “kick-stand” that allows you to prop the N96 up on a flat surface in landscape mode, ideally for watching videos. It’s a cool idea, though I try to avoid watching videos on my N95 whenever possible so I don’t think this one would be any different.
